A contraindication is any medical condition, whether or not it is followed by the care of a
physician, which precludes a client from receiving massage or to receive massage with modifications.
Although massage is beneficial to many people, sometimes it is inappropriate for people with
certain medical conditions to receive massage. Or, if they do receive massage, it is vitally
important to receive massage ONLY with the consent of their physician. If any of the following
apply to you, please get your doctor's permission with any appropriate limitations before receiving
massage or body treatment from any massage therapist.

Pregnancy or trying to get pregnant:
Being pregnant does not mean you cannot receive massage. Massage during pregnancy is safe; and, in
fact, can be a great source of psychological and physiological relief prior to and after giving
birth, and sometimes even during the birthing process. While I know of no instance where a pregnancy
was terminated or a miscarriage caused by massage, I believe it is important for the mother-to-be
receive her physician's and then to receive massage from a massage therapist who has been certified
in pregnancy massage.
If you are trying to get pregnant, I still recommend that you receive bodywork from a massage
therapist who is certified in pregnancy massage.
